Help us to make Surrey a
safer place - as well as water-based life-guarding, we train teachers,
sports coaches, new parents, and members of the public in lifesaving rescue
skills. Our clubs and affiliated centres, prepare young people for
competitions, the Duke of Edinburgh's Awards, and GCSE in PE. PLEASE
support our work by making a donation, volunteering your time, or raising
funds.

National Rescue Award for
Swimming Teachers and Coaches (NRASTC)
Revised - May 2008
The process of registering a NRASTC
course is NOT complex, but you must complete it or there is a strong
possibility that your candidates' awards will be invalidated.
Almost every month, and sometimes more
often, the Branch Life Saving Coordinators are asked by River House to
investigate courses that have been incorrectly administered. Sadly, in
the past, there have been instances where ALL the candidates had their
awards revoked and had to be retrained or reassessed.
You need to know how many 'new' and
how many 'renewal' candidates are expected.
Payment MUST be made in advance, but
can be made using credit and debit cards.
2
The trainer completes the course
notification form below, which is submitted electronically to the
BLCs.
You should give a minimum of two week's
notice. This allows us to provide opportunities for Probationary T/As
to be mentored and 'signed off'.
3
The trainer must arrange their own
Assessor(s).
You should give a minimum of one month's
notice - remember assessors are volunteers with busy diaries too!
A list of local assessors can be obtained
by clicking the link on our home page or alternatively by contacting River
House.
Remember: if you are charging candidates
for a course, and being remunerated yourself, it would be normal practice,
to expect to pay the assessor at the same rate. This cost is usually
built into the course fee.
register a NRASTC course with the Branch
- this results in FREE publicity for open courses and provides
opportunities for probationer assessors to become qualified.
If you have difficulty finding
a TA who is
available, please contact the Branch Lifesaving
Coordinators who will be glad to assist.
REMEMBER - all courses for BM/LS1 and NRASTC must be
pre-registered.
From May 2009, BM/LS
assessments can be conducted by the TA within certain constraints.
You should have received details of this change by post, direct from HQ.
If not, call the BLCs before doing anything!
